Laser Hair Removal Clinic Laser Hair Removal Clinic Leading Edge Laser Systems Scientifically Tested & Proven Effective Hair Removal Affiliated with the UBC Division of Dermatology The Skin Care Centre 835 West 10th Avenue Vancouver, BC V5Z 4E6 875-4986 A Quick solution for Unwanted Hair with Enduring Results! Most hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking and waxing, provide only temporary relief. Electrolysis can result in reduced hair growth, but it is a tedious and often painful process. A hair removal laser offers quick treatment of large and small areas, anywhere on the body, with long-lasting results. Chin/Neck Underarms Back Upper Lip Bikini Line Legs Safely remove unwanted body hair without damaging delicate pores and structures of the skin. The process is simple. A coat of clear gel is smoothed onto the skin, and then the laser pulses are quickly and evenly applied. Most individuals experience no more than a slight stinging sensation. Some parts of the body do tend to be more sensitive than others, and sometimes redness or swelling will occur for a few hours afterwards. Photos: Top row - upper lip before & after Bottom Row - bikini line before & after Photos courtesy of: Mark S. Nestor, MD, PhD Treatment Schedule It is important to realize that hair follows a specific growth cycle, moving from an "active" stage into a dormant period. The length of each phase in this cycle varies depending on where the hair is located on the body. During your initial session, the hair removal laser will remove visible hair and disable those follicles in the growing phase. Follicles lying dormant will not be affected at this time. Eventually, as these dormant hairs become active and begin to grow, additional sessions may be desired. The number of sessions will vary by individual. Hair-Free Legs & Backs in Under 20 Minutes The Laser Hair Removal Clinic uses the EpiTouch™ Alex Hair Removal Laser. The EpiTouch™ Alex uses advanced, clinically tested laser technology to rapidly remove hair, with a new level of effectiveness and convenience. Working 5X faster than other hair removal lasers, the EpiTouch™ Alex selectively targets the pigment inside the hair follicle, and disables large numbers of follicles without damaging the surrounding skin. Now, freedom from unwanted body hair is faster, easier and more comfortably achieved, leaving you with a smooth and fresh feeling for longer than ever before. Best of Fashion Girl - Prom Advice Tips on Makeup, Dresses, Hair, Styles, Shoes, more HOMECOMING -- CONTESTS PROM ADVICE CAREERS GUYS MAKEUP HAIRSTYLES ACCESSORIES DRESSES Fashion Girl | Tips & Tricks | Prom Prep | E-Cards Need to know how to style your hair, select a dress or coordinate a look with shoes and accessories? When it comes to advice, Fashion Girl has the answers for all things prom. You can even ask her about careers in the Fashion Industry and how you can be part of it! Ask Fashion Girl The Best of Fashion Girl Dear Fashion Girl: This guy, Luke, asked me to prom and I said yes. The only thing is, is that he's really shy. He's fun once you get to know him, but I'm worried he might be all shy on prom night. What can I do? - Hannah Dear Hannah: The #1 way to help someone overcome their shyness is to get them to talk about themselves. Ask him questions--people are flattered when someone wants to know about THEM. Ask him about his favorite band or movie. Find out what his hobbies are (does he like to draw? read books?). You'll soon find out which topics will break him out of his shy shell. Once you connect, the conversation will start flowing. So on Prom night, remember, take a deep breath, smile, and start asking questions! Have fun! Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: No ones asked me yet. How do I find a Prom date? - Amanda Dear Amanda: Here's my advice: If you really want to go to the Prom with a date, don't wait around hoping for a guy to ask you. Make it happen and go ask a guy to the Prom! I know it's scary, but there are a lot of guys out there who feel the same way you do. They want to go to the Prom, but they don't know who to ask or they are afraid of rejection or maybe they are just too shy! Want to know a secret? Sometimes the shy guys are the nicest guys at school, but since they aren't outgoing, no one knows! When you're deciding who to ask, consider every guy you know. Your date doesn't have to be your future boyfriend--he could just be a friend. If no one is coming to mind, let your friends know that you're on the lookout for a date. They may have a friend who'd be perfect. Your parents or relatives also might have friends who know someone you could ask. If you don't find a date, go to the Prom anyway and make it a night to remember by enjoying it with your friends. I'm crossing my fingers for you! If there's anything else I can do to help, let me know. Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: What color eye shadow would I wear with a blue dress? - Mea Dear Mea: Try a monochromatic eye shadow in a brown shade or, for something different, apply a sparkling white shadow to the inner corner of your eyes to brighten them. If you want to try some other options, head to a makeup counter at your local department store for a free makeover and tips. Be sure to take notes and tell them what color dress you are wearing to the Prom! Good Luck! Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: Im a sophomore and Im going to Prom with a guy I really like. I want to look my best. Any tips for looking my best? - Cynthia Dear Cynthia: To look and feel beautiful, find a dress that makes you shine. There are so many different varieties of coloring (hair/skin) and body shapes and your goal should be to find the dress that flatters YOUR coloring and YOUR best features! The best way to do that? First, do your research. Visit PromAdvice.com and get an idea of what STYLE you're going for--whether it's Goth, Bohemian, Princess, or whatever. Next, I would recommend going to a bridal store or department store with lots of choices--the more dresses you try on, the more you'll know what color works for you. Bring a friend with you for a second opinion. The right COLOR will make your eyes, skin and hair glow (rather than fade out). Try it with a few colors and you will instantly see what I mean. Do this with several dresses and soon you might start to get a handle on what colors and in particular what shades of each color are great for you and which ones don't do a thing for you. Don't just buy something because the color looks great on the rack. Use this test and see if it works for you. If it doesn't, move on. And EXPERIMENT! You'll be surprised to find out some of the colors you might have been avoiding are wonderful on you. After you've chosen your dress and accessories, it's time to start thinking about your MAKEUP. Head to the makeup counter at your local department store. Tell them what color dress you plan to wear and they will help you come up with shades that accentuate your best features AND matches your gown. Take notes! Check out the Makeup section at PromAdvice.com for more Makeup How To's: Makeup Section Just a few other tips: Make sure you practice your hairstyle BEFORE Prom night. Have some friends over and try out styles on each other. Also, be sure to get plenty of sleep the night before Prom. That way you'll look and feel your best. We have lots of other great Prom Prep tips at PromAdvice.com. So check them out (I'm pasting the link below). The most important thing is that you have a GREAT time! Click Here If there's anything else I can do to help, let me know. Good Luck! Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: I am skinny and tall and I have no idea what to wear? Please help me! - Andrea Dear Andrea: First of all--don't fight nature! Lots of girls would love to have your thin frame! When youre thin, it's definitely important to have a dress that fits, and that's probably more important than the specific style of the dress. One key to adding bulk to a slim figure is to look for ruffles, flounces, gathers, ruching, sparkles, tulle, and any kind of extra fabric or frou-frou details, especially at the bust and hips. If you've got a small bust, I recommend highlighting a great back or shoulders -- and at the same time taking advantage of the fact that you don't have to wear a bra for support -- by choosing a dress with a tie-back. Lots of girls can't wear bare dresses and will be envious, because they're really in style right now. If there's anything else I can do to help, let me know. Good Luck! Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: What make-up will go with my dress? - Sue Dear Sue: Make-up is a very individual thing. It's often determined by the color you're wearing, as well as the colors of your eyes, skin, and hair. The best way to find out what makeup you as an individual should wear is to go to a make-up counter such as MAC or a make-up store such as Sephora and have the professional make-up artists there do your make-up. Go well before Prom night, when it's not busy. Bring along your dress so that they can see what colors you will be wearing. It doesn't cost anything to have them demonstrate their products on you, so don't feel obligated to buy unless you want to. Feel free to re-create your look with less expensive products from the drugstore. You'll have the added advantage of not only getting the right shade of make-up for your coloring and dress, but a bit of instruction on how to apply it. Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: My date is barely taller than I am. What do I do about shoes? - Kim Dear Kim: How great is it that you have a date?! Wow! That's what you should be focusing on, not the height issue. But I agree, it's something small to stress over, and we all do that. First of all, let's keep in mind that this guy asked YOU to be his date, he did not ask a shorter girl. If he were concerned with height, he would have found a shorter girl, end of story. Obviously the height issue is not primary on his list of priorities, so neither should it be on yours. That said, I do think it's fine not to want to wear heels if you don't feel comfortable being way taller (though if you wanted to, I think it would be fine). There are lots of great flats out there, both in sandals and ballet styles. When you're shopping for shoes, just look for the lowest shoes that you have available to you. And remember, an inch here or there isn't going to make a huge difference. If you can't find anything totally low, don't freak. Just look as pretty as possible, because that's what's going to make him the happiest--not you being the shortest! Make the evening about having fun together, not about who's taller or shorter. Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: I need a dress that will cover my arms, shoulders, and back without being completely ugly. The problem is that I have problems with stretch marks. Can you recommend any ideas on covering up the marks or actual dresses to disguise them? - Lauren Dear Lauren: Stretch marks are super-common during the teenage years, when the body is growing a lot. Lots of girls have them, but they tend to show up more on some skins rather than others. Often they go away with time. But obviously you're concerned with right now! In terms of Prom or Homecoming, I think it's a better idea not to look to your dress to do the job of covering your arms, shoulders, and back. The dresses that do so can be pretty horrid, and in limited supply as well. Instead, I think it's better to find a great dress that's too bare and then find a cute cotton or cashmere sweater, a lace or velvet jacket, or something of that nature to wear over your dress to cover your arms, back, and shoulders. You can also try a real or faux fur stole that hooks in front so that you don't have to hold it, or a crocheted openwork sweater. The fall and holiday season are the best times to find a cover-up that will work with a fancy dress. An alternative is to have a lace or other fabric jacket made in a color to coordinate with your dress. Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: Theres no way I can wear a bra with my dress. It's very strappy. Is there anything I can do? - Lindsay Dear Lindsay: Most of the dresses these days won't accommodate a regular bra, so this is a common question. There are a couple of bra solutions you can look into which might work. One is a long-line strapless bra with a very low back, which might not show under your strappy dress. These give good support and are available in the bra departments of larger department stores. The other idea, which I have not tried myself, is the stick-on bras available in the department store lingerie departments which are nothing more than a bra front that sticks onto the front of your body with adhesive. I have no idea if they work well or not, but they might be worth a try. Take your dress with you to the largest lingerie department you have available to you and see what options you have. Ask a salesperson for help. You never know what great inventions there are for just these problems! Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: I have really short hair. How can I style it? - Sara Dear Sara: While it appears that there are fewer options for styling short hair for special occasions, I have a few ideas for glamming it up. Try slicking your hair back with gel, either straight back or parted on the side. You can put barrettes on the side as well--either one or two on the same side. Using rhinestone barrettes would be great! Or you could ever so slightly spike your hair and add small rhinestones or tiny ribbon bows that coordinate with your dress. Attach them to bobby pins to hold them in the hair. Adding flowers is a super festive touch. Just pinning a flower behind you ear could be a great look. Another idea is to pin a sparkly necklace to your head like a tiara, or buy a small tiara (sometimes called a diadem) to wear nestled in your hair. Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: I am less than five feet tall. How can I find a dress for someone my size? Prom is in six months. - Cassie Dear Cassie: Being Petite means that regular dresses won't fit you, even if you shorten them. It's not only the length you need shorter, it's the whole proportion of the dress. Since you've got the jump on Prom and you are a Petite size, I definitely recommend that you look into having your dress made for you. I don't think you're going to find many dresses from which to choose that are sized for Petites, which is the department you would need to shop in. For you, the dressmaker route really makes sense, so start now. You can get ideas of dress styles in the pattern books at the fabric store. Most standard patterns are easily adjusted for Petites. Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: I have a brown complexion. Ive heard that if I wear a light-colored dress, I would look darker and if I wear a dark-colored dress, I wouldn't look as dark. What color dress would suit me? - Sarah Dear Sarah: While on the surface that would seem to be true, it really isn't that simple. Dark colors could make your complexion look muddy, while light colors might bring out the richness in your skin tone. What you want to do is try each and every color individually in front of a mirror, not go by what someone tells you. Use your own eyes! A mid-tone color such as a rich red, a pretty turquoise, or any bright that's right for you could get you glowing. It's a matter of finding the right one. This website gives great advice on color: www.ianr.unl.edu/pubs/textiles/heg192.htm Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: I have acne on my forehead. What do you suggest I do with my hair? Would makeup cover it? - Rachel Dear Rachel: Relax--most of us have acne at one time or another! It definitely is a drag when it happens on a big night like Prom or Homecoming. One makeup that covers acne is Dermablend. You can find out more about it at www.dermablend.com . Otherwise, bangs that are sprayed in place so that they stay put are a good way to camouflage acne. Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: How can I lose weight before Prom? - Tyesha Dear Tyesha: Making healthy changes in your life is always a good idea. However, I am not a doctor or a Registered Dietician, and that is who you need to consult if you want advice on changing your diet. Don't get involved with fad diets! Adding more activity to your day, such as walking, biking, or playing an after-school sport, is a really good way to get in better shape. Explore this link for some great tips: www.kidshealth.org/teen/food_fitness/ Sincerely, Dear Fashion Girl: I want to get my dress made for Prom. Could you recommend a place to get it made? - Kat Dear Kat: Having a dress custom-made is a really fun idea. However, I don't know of specific people in your area who do custom-made Prom dresses. I recommend that you get referrals to dressmakers from people who have used them in the past and been happy with the results. Ask family and friends. Other places to look for dressmakers are at tailor shops, dry cleaning establishments, bridal boutiques, and through fabric stores. Be sure to ask for references and call to confirm them. For ideas of dress styles, you can look in the pattern books that are at the fabric stores. There are some great patterns for dresses that can be easily modified to a unique style that no one else has. Another good thing to do is to get a bunch of magazines and cut out pictures of different dresses that you like. You might not like the whole dress, but it might be a sleeve here or a neckline there that really excites you. Make a file, a poster board, or a scrapbook of all your dress ideas so that you can show your dressmaker what your ideas are rather than trying to explain them in words, which are not as accurate as a picture. This will really help you when it comes time to have your dress made. Sincerely, Cool Contests After Prom, what's next? Enter to win College Scholarships to attend FIDM! And how the wax sticks to everything. It can even get too hot and burn your skin. Save the cost and pitfalls of a salon waxing with a gentle back hair removal method by Philips. No more botched results and having to depend on someone else to care for your delicate back area. Philips creates a wide range of tools for back hair removal. You can choose the method that matches your needs and preferences. Perhaps you want the longest-lasting way to remove hair. Then an epilator from Philips is the choice for you. It works quickly and conveniently. Your back hair is removed in a jiffy. And hair re-growth will be up to 50% less with regular use. Back hair removal the quick and easy way If you have tried shaving your back with a razor blade in the past, you know the drawbacks. With back hair removal methods from Philips the inconvenient and sometimes dangerous disadvantages are history. Our shavers designed for women are not just a prettier version of our shaving tools for men. They are crafted with a woman’s specific needs in mind. Lightweight and easy to handle. Shaped for a woman’s smaller hands. And the rotating heads gently hug the curves and contours of your body. For a shave as close as a blade. Without the hassle.
