The cause for this is that they are non-authorised medicinal products and that there is an adverse reaction risk involved in using the products. Consumers using the products should cease treatment and contact their general practitioner if they have experienced adverse reactions when using the products. The known adverse reactions are hair growth, eczema as well as rare cases of headache. The products have been imported to Denmark and are distributed to Danish consumers via hairdressing saloons. According to the FDA, the product contains the active substance minoxidil, but apparently this is not indicated on the products. Minoxidil is used for treatment of early and significant hair loss. The Danish Medicines Agency regards these products as medicinal products, as does the American pharmaceutical authorities. Medicinal products must be authorised by the Danish Medicines Agency or the European Commission before they are sold in Denmark. Neither of the two products is authorised. The Danish Medicines Agency has notified the Danish importer that the products are illegal and that all distribution must stop.
