Place jar on a microwave safe plate in the center of microwave. Heating time varies with each microwave. Heat for 30 seconds. Carefully break the surface of the wax with a large applicator. Continue to heat in intervals of 15 seconds until you can stir the wax so it takes on a thick, honey or caramel-like consistency. Do not heat longer than a total of 1 minute, wax may become too hot to apply. Remove jar from microwave carefully. If jar is uncomfortable to touch, let cool in the microwave before removing. Test the wax temperature before applying to bikini area. Cleanse area to be epilated with Pre-Hon Lotion. Pat dry with tissue. Apply Pre-Epilation Oil sparingly to area to be epilated. With applicator, apply a thick coat of wax in the direction of hair growth. Allow wax to cool on skin until it becomes soft and pliable, approximately 30 seconds. Hold skin taut, pull wax off with one quick motion in the opposite direction of hair growth keeping hardened wax as close to the skin as possible. Never re-apply wax to epilated area. Immediately apply firm pressure to epilated area with the cushion of your fingers or palm of hand to clean skin. Apply Wax Off liberally on treated area to remove any wax residue and to moisturize skin. To maintain epilation results longer, smooth on Slow Grow everyday after showering to inhibit hair growth. It is as inevitableas death, and about as pleasant. I nthe days before I became involved in the beauty industry, I can recallwhen my very pregnant stylist informed me, that after the baby was bornshe would no longer be cutting hair. Once the initialshock wore off, I manifested emotions such as - denial, anger, pleadingsto God, and pretended acceptance. When at last it was time for mynext haircut and not knowing what else to do or where else to go, I simplyreturned to the same salon and another girl cut my hair. Not only didshe do a fine job on my hair, she changed the look altogether and it wasmuch better than the already terrific job her former coworker had beendoing, and I remained a client at that salon for the next fourteen years. I took thislesson with me when I entered the beauty industry. You might arguethat it was just dumb luck, but it wasn't. Throughout those fourteenyears my stylists changed many times, but the quality of service and workmanshipdid not. This was because I went to an excellent salon with superiorstaff training and mentoring. In other words,it is finding the right salon that is critical, not the right stylist,and all the better so as stylists tend to move on every year or so, forno particular reason. Over the yearsI have been asked many times how to find a good stylist or salon and overtime I have worked out the following formula with very good results: 1. Do not ask friends, relatives or coworkers whom they recommend. As it turns out they will rarely tell you who their stylist really is becauseover the course of time they have told that stylist every detail abouttheir personal life and they don't want it to slip out. They alsodon't want you to show up with the same cut and style that they have. What they willdo is give you the name of a relative or friend who cuts hair because everysingle person on the face of the earth is related to a hair stylist, orat least knows one socially. If you actually go there and you areunsatisfied with the service, there is no graceful way out of the situationwithout offending the person who gave you the referral. Instead I recommendasking a total stranger. If you see someone on the street or at thegrocery store who has a cut that you like, simply stop them and ask. You needn't be embarrassed, it is quite flattering to the person whom youstopped and they will be eager to brag up their salon or stylist. After you have done this a few times you will see a pattern emerge. 2. Age, gender, sexual orientation, race, and years of experience, have nothingto do with the talent of a stylist. Don't get caught up in those nonsensical stereotypes. They will neitherserve you, or become you. Instead I recommendscreening the salon. Do they have an internship or apprentice programfor training their new stylists. How often do they have educationin the salon, (other than product education). How often do they goto an IBS, (International Beauty Show), in Long Beach, Chicago or New York. How many of them have been to an advanced academy with Toni & Guy,American Crew, Paul Mitchell or the like. In my salonwe bring select beauty school students into our internship program forsix months. By the time they graduate beauty school they hit thefloor running and are usually better than stylists who have been cuttinghair for five years or more in other salons. We have mandatory technicaltraining in the salon every two weeks. Failure to attend is groundsfor immediate dismissal. Stylists are required to either attend anadvanced academy at their own expense, ($1,000 - $3,000), or attend anIBS at a minimum of once every two years. Twice per year our stylistsare required to compete in a National Cosmetology Association hair cuttingcompetition or State competition. Every single stylist is requiredto do straight razor cuts from day one. Now, I don'texpect every salon to meet our standards, but I do expect to see some degreeof professionalism above that of the average salon, or they don't get totouch my hair. 3. Last but not least, I always give the straight razor test. Walk up to a stylist in the salon who isn't doing anything and ask himor her to show you their straight razor. If it isn't in their toolbelt or on their station ready for use, or if it has a guard on it, turnand go. Those people are not serious about hair cutting. Imagineyour plumber not knowing how to use a wrench. If the salonis dedicated to being the best, you can bet the stylists are too, and itdoes not matter a hoot whom you choose in that salon. Hair Transplant Surgery Hair Transplant Surgery What Is A Hair Transplantation Procedure ? Hair transplant surgery is based on the principle of donor dominance, which means that hair from healthy donor sites will take root and grow normally when transplanted into balding, recipient sites. Hair transplantation first involves removing small strips of hair bearing scalp from the back and sides of the head. This "donor region" contains hair which will grow throughout a lifetime. The areas from which the strips are taken are carefully repaired, usually resulting in a very narrow scar easily hidden amongst the hair. The harvested strips of hair bearing scalp are then divided into grafts for placement in the balding areas. These grafts may be processed into a variety of different sizes depending on each patient’s specific needs and condition. In recent years, the use of very small grafts, particularly at the hair line, has become very popular. These grafted hairs grow out much like normal hair and are virtually undetectable. Larger grafts containing more hairs may be used in some situations to obtain more density behind the hair line. Grafts containing one to two hairs are known as micrografts . Grafts containing three to five hairs are known as mini-grafts . The grafts are inserted into small holes or slits which are made in the balding scalp. These holes or slits are sometimes made with a laser. The grafts can literally be inserted between existing hairs to increase the density and thicken the area. The number of grafts required and the length of a treatment session depend on each person’s particular problem and degree of baldness. Who Is A Good Candidate For Hair Transplantation? Multiple factors play a role in selecting a hair transplant candidate and planning the hair loss treatment, including the rating of the degree of hair loss and the evaluation of donor hair for colour, texture and density. The candidate must be carefully assessed as to the cause of hair loss (alopecia), the family history, and the progression of hair loss. Hair transplant has also been used successfully on persons who have lost some but not all hair as a result of burns, scars or other injuries to their scalp. What Can Be Expected After Surgery? The great majority of patients are quite comfortable both during and after their hair transplantation procedure. Bandages are usually removed after 24 hours. Many of our patients find that they do not need to take any medication at all after their hair transplantation procedure. In general, patients can resume their normal activities, unless this entails strenuous physical exercise. There may be some swelling and bruising around the eyes after two or three days, which can be minimized by ice compresses and sleeping in a semi-reclined position. Some crusting or small scabs may be present for a week to 10 days, along with some itching at the treatment sites. Any numbness at the donor and recipient sites usually disappears within three months. What Results Can Be Expected? The amount of coverage varies depending on the extent of baldness and the specific procedure performed. Within about one month, much of the transplanted hair is shed. About two months later, hair starts to grow and continues to grow at a normal rate. About six months after a hair transplant session, the transplanted hairs begin to take on a natural appearance. The donor site from which the hair was taken shrinks to a very small, barely noticeable scar that is well hidden by the surrounding hair. Most individuals require at least two or more surgery sessions to achieve the optimal outcome. Hence, it is important for both candidate and dermatologic surgeon to feel that they can work together for an extended period of time. How Much Does It Cost?
