The habbit of getting a haircut in London | Nicole Simon's Useful Sounds -- Useful Sounds This is Nicole Simon's personal podcast called Useful Sounds. While before it also held my blogpost, it is now the space just for the podcast. If you would like to read me, go read my blog cruel to be kind or visit my more business oriented site bloxpert.com (has the Les Blogs 2.0 podcast). If you read German I suggest beissholz.de . A short description of myself would be: "Female. European. And while my arrival in London was an absolut horror, since yesterday evening it begins to be as I had hoped to. I will go into that horror story later when i am back home (I lost my money and credit card, not sure if it was stolen or just lost - being stranded on Stansted airport is not a pleasant story), but today was a rather pleasent day. So just some short notes: I spent yesterday evening with lovely Rachel Clarke for a very nice italian meal (the first thing I had to eat that day after I puked out the water and paprika in the air plane that early morning). I will spend this evening in a very cool unexpensive bar with her. After being moved from one of the bigger rooms (a small cell) into an even smaller room (flickr fotos to come) I found this new room to be more pleasant: some free wifi around here is 48% of reach instead of 22% in the bigger room. :)) I from now on love the UK: They have milk available nearly everywhere and the little bar here with tee, coffee etc has not cream but little milk cups! :) If you ever want a perfectly suited but not expensive hotel: Take Hallam Hotel with a single room for 39 pounds. Yes, the rooms are very small, and it is a bit old charmed, and not in perfect shape, but hey! It is London, Oxford Street, the people are friendly and it is clean. You can't beat that as a price. I much prefer to spend my money outside in hotels. I noticed some clever business owners here, will follow with foto coverage. Visited the British Museum - very nice, especially because it is free. Nice souvenirs there. And the reason for the post: This is my second time ever to London. And the first time I was with my school here - and got the most perfect hair cut of my life. Today I wandered around the city and had unsuccessfully tried to get a hair cut before I flew over here (unsuccessful as in: the one I wanted was not available and all the other girls in that store are not able to cut my hair). So when I saw the sign of cheap hair cut in a trendy place, I decided to go in - and now feel more prepared for tomorow. "Please make it more fun, more funky but not too funky, I am going for a business conference tomorow." :)) I hope she did well enought, it defenetly feels better than before. I checked out the hotel and it really will be a 5-10 minute walk. :) But I will skip over that breakfast - me and breakfast don't go together well. ;( Technorati Tags: PodcastconUK , London , Hotel , haircut Trackbacks Trackback URL for this entry: http://useful-sounds.de/pivot/includes/tb/tb_.php?tb_id=334 Comments comments (0) : Name: Remember personal info? My question is...what do guys think once they see they are growing out? You know, we need it to grow a little to wax it back. Do they find it disgusting? What about pubic hair? I know there are preferences, and I am not one of them that has very light pubic hair like some lucky women do. I think mine is normal, but I don't know what a guy will think. I am not for shaving hair for baring like a little girl. Post Extras: Stuart Top Ten Contributor Reged: 08/08/02 Posts: 222 Loc: Johannesburg, South Africa Re: What do guys think? [Re: GirlHair ] # 18493 - 11/26/04 07:29 AM Edit Reply Quote Quick Reply Hi I don't think pubic hair is disgusting at all. This is normal for all adults. If you think you have too much, or are embarressed by it, then just trim it back lightly. I think the small amount of hair on your chest can be quickly dealt with by a permanent removal method. My personal preference would not be chest hair on a woman, but it sounds like a small amount so why not just get it fixed with electrolysis? The same applies in reverse to guys who shave their legs like I do. First you think doing something about it is weird, but soon you realise that getting cosmetic treatment on your body is absolutly normal. I think you will feel much more comfortable after removing the unwanted hairs. Good Luck Stuart Post Extras: GirlHair Contributor Reged: 04/10/03 Posts: 60 Re: What do guys think? [Re: Stuart ] # 18502 - 11/26/04 11:41 PM Edit Reply Quote Quick Reply Yes, it is a very, very small amount, but you can see it if you get close. I remember one woman in the Extreme Dating show someone said you have hair on your chest. That was cruel, but I am not the one to show it off as it really isn't normal. I would love to get electrolysis sometimes. Doing it myself with OneTouch wasn't pleasant, and it didn't do anything. It also is painful on my neck since I have to look down a long time. It's just that my finances aren't okay right now. It really isn't alot of money, but I honestly can't spend on that right now. I wax for right now. I relly want to get rid of them. I hate them. I also want to get rid of the tummy hair with laser as they are dark enough and my skin is fair enough for laser. I'll ask for the cost of laser in the laser board. I am sure it's a lot more than electrolysis. I think since the hairs are all hunched together unlike my chest, and will be faster--why not laser? Post Extras: Finogior Major Contributor Reged: 12/25/02 Posts: 103 Loc: 15 Bond St. Re: What do guys think? [Re: GirlHair ] # 18594 - 12/02/04 07:23 PM Edit Reply Quote Quick Reply Think carefully and get rid of the hair with electrolysis. The average cost for chest hair is $150 and it is about the same for abdomen hair - $300 for permanent hair removal makes more sense then spending thousands of dollars on non-permanent laser. Read carefully the site ElectrolysisInformation.com Post Extras: fred7625 Junior Member Reged: 07/02/03 Posts: 28 Re: What do guys think? Quote: What about pubic hair?...I am not for shaving hair for baring like a little girl. Obviously I'm in this forum because I have reason to be attentive to hair removal issues but neither extreme has been a problem for me. Some people like it one way and not the other. Guess I'm saying don't generalize. Probably 90% of guys don't care. Post Extras: Mantaray stranger Reged: 08/22/04 Posts: 132 Re: What do guys think? [Re: GirlHair ] # 19848 - 02/10/05 10:12 PM Edit Reply Quote Quick Reply You know what's really funny? I must always be clean shaven, and I really am bothered by hair all over me, and on my back and neck or wherever. But, my girlfriend is a somewhat fuzzy natural blonde, she feels she can't get laser, is too busy for electrolysis, and frequently runs out of the house to work without shaving her legs. Does it bother me? Not in the slightest. It completely doesn't even register in my conciousness. It's such small thing to even think about that I feel funny even posting this about it. Mantaray Post Extras: James W. Walker VII, CPE Top Ten Contributor Reged: 06/03/02 Posts: 2252 Loc: Buffalo NY 5 Photos Re: What do guys think? [Re: Mantaray ] # 19850 - 02/11/05 01:46 AM Edit Reply Quote Quick Reply I have always said that most of what females do to present themselves publicly is done to impress other females, because males really don't notice, or don't care about all that. Most guys only want you to appear fit, healthy, and like you care enough to take care of yourself. The rest is beyond their level of comprehension sometimes. Would your guy friends ever notice if your purse didn't match your shoes? You are worried about a stray hair here and there, and yet, I ask you, if you called 5 of your male friends on the phone and asked them what color your eyes are, how many would get it right (and of those, how many just won the lottery with a lucky guess)? Men are visual creatures, but not all that observant. Recently, I was commenting about a picture of one gal's sister that she has on her refridgerator. I was telling her that some guys and I were talking about it for a little while during a party (mostly about how hot her sister looks in the picture). When she tries to nail down what picture I am talking about, it becomes obvious that I don't even recall what color outfit the woman was wearing in a picture I and 5 other guys spent at least 5 minutes ogling! Subsequent conversations with the other guys found the same situation existed with them. The funniest thing is that somehow we all seemed to remember that she was wearing red, when in fact she was wearing YELLOW. It was her near waist length hair that was auburn with bright red highlights. Sure some guys make rude comments about a woman's unwanted hair, but that guy is just trying to deflect attention away from his own problems, or make his friends laugh. I know that it is a fear of women that a guy will be all in to her and then notice some unwanted hair, and reject her for that alone, but really now, any guy who would do that is not a keeper anyway and most guys won't notice until they are finally paying enough attention to detail that you are way past the point where it matters. -------------------- Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan. --- Tom Landry Post Extras: Veinlover Junior Member Reged: 06/12/04 Posts: 121 Loc: Chicago Re: What do guys think? [Re: James W. Walker VII, CPE ] # 21243 - 04/22/05 11:02 AM Edit Reply Quote Quick Reply I will concurr that guys really notice very little, and probably couldn't care less if you have some body hair. In fact, all women have some fuzz on their chest and abdomen, I think, but usually it is so fine and light you cannot really see it. I think it is natural, and not unattractive. If you had thick chest hair like a man, then I thinkn you'd want to shave it, I'd notice that for sure. I don't think its particularly attractive on men, and not on women either. I've seen substantial chest hair on female bodybuilders, but most ofthem shave theirentire body, and look perfectly fine. Men knonw women shave their legs and pits, and don't care that you have hair there, why would they care if you have some "happy trail" hair as well. Just shave it or wax it or use electrolysis if you don't like it. Some men prefer women with lots of pubic hair, by the way. Others prefer women smooth down below, and you can certainly arrange that if you wish. Also, lots of women have a bit of upper lip hair, and men probably give little thought to it, as long as the woman removes it somehow. I do notice when my wife neglects to shave her legs, because I hate the feel of stubble, though if i didn't touch her, I wouldn't notice. But, her leg hair is fairly light in colour. I shave my legs daily, and in a reverse of the norm, think she should return the courtesy. The one thing I do notice is arm hair. If a woman has real dark arm hair, I do think she should shave it, or wax, electrolysis, something to get rid of it. If the hair is soft and light in colour, I think it looks kind of sexy. I know this sounds kind of goofy, but I think if a woman doesn't have too much pit hair, it looks kind of sexy if they haven't shaved in a few days, and get a little stubble there. I was in Hawaii once and the waitress on the beach was very pretty, with a great body, and I noticed over a few days didn't shave under her arms, and I thought her stubble, which was dark in colour, was fairly sexy. Of course, if it is fully grown out, that is definitely NOT sexy. That probably is how some women feel if a guy , the right guy let me add, doesn't shave has face for a few days, and has that stubbly look. Post Extras: edgibson Reged: 07/01/05 Posts: 3 Loc: North Carolina Re: What do guys think? [Re: GirlHair ] # 22986 - 07/01/05 02:37 PM Edit Reply Quote Quick Reply Most guys don't have heavy opinions either way. Oh, I am sure that you will find some who would run screaming over a little body hair...... but they are probably nitwits. Me personally, I prefer smooth pits and legs. But I would rather see pubic hair. Just how I am wired. My g/f loves my shaved head, but also loves my beard. Go figure. Frankly, if she likes it, it's staying that way. Western North Carolina Woman: hair removal by candy maier HOME ABOUT US CONTACT US ADVERTISING WHERE TO FIND US SUBSCRIPTIONS SEARCH EVENTS GALLERY MARKETPLACE PAST ISSUES WRITER'S GUIDELINES RESOURCES hair removal by candy maier I remember being incredibly grateful that I wasn’t part of my mother’s and sister’s once-a-month, Sunday night, hair removal ritual. Although I didn’t participate, I looked forward to sitting on the sidelines and observing female-torture night in our house. The smell of burning hair drifting up from the kitchen, always brought me clamoring downstairs to sit at the kitchen table and gloat. Holding my blonde peach-fuzzed arms next to my sister’s dark hairy forearms made me, for just once, feel that I had been dealt the better hand – at least as far as body hair was concerned. Before the days of Nair, my mother simply turned on a gas burner so a hot ring of blue flames shot up. She had my sister quickly thrust each arm into the flames while turning them back and forth. When my sister pulled her arms back out, she’d brush off the burnt hair and her arms were as smooth and hairless as a baby’s. My mother demonstrated over and over that the procedure was painless by putting her own arms through the flames, showing that as long as it was done quickly and you kept the arms moving, the flames would singe the hair off without burning the skin. Despite the numerous demonstrations by my mother, this still took an awe-inspiring amount of faith and trust on my sister’s part. My mother also liked to show her children, and the neighbor’s children too, that passing your finger through the flame of a candle didn’t hurt at all. No matter how many times I saw this daring act performed, I refused to believe that I would not get burned. My sister, however, when faced with the choice of possible 3rd degree burns or being teased about her gorilla-like forearms, chose the former. Next, my mother pulled a small brown crockery pot out of the bathroom cabinet. The miniature casserole was filled with wax which she heldover the same flames and waited for the mud colored wax to heat up. When it was good and hot she used a small stick to paint a mustache on her face and one on my sister’s also. This was not too painful unless the hot wax touched the lips. One time, when this happened, my sister’s scream was so loud, our nosy neighbor called to see what was going on in our house. From then on, before ripping the hardened wax from my sister’s upper lip, my mother closed the kitchen windows. I don’t know how my sister explained the big blister on her lip the following day in school. To this day, I remember the warm, comforting smell of the kitchen on hair-removal night. Mom, my sister and I sharing a ritual – along with laughs and conversation. But mostly I remember the smug feeling of satisfaction that came over me. I may have been a bit overweight and not half as pretty as my older sister, but at least I had been blessed with hairless arms. Candy spends most of her free time sitting on a mountain top obsessing about chocolate, her mother, her weight, her children, cancer, and her dog’s weight.
