I was at the club au-go-go dance Saturday and saw plenty of groovy chicks in their gitchy threads and 60's hairdos. As a guy a put in some mineral oil and comb it back then put on my hat, though as girls I suppose you have a lot more work at hand. _________________ Looking for my Emma Peel. It normally only works in the first few weeks after I get my hair cut, and then only when my hair is cut right. Am BEYOND stressing, though, because I just lost the veritable God Of Hair after he moved to Savannah with his boyfriend. Like I told him before he left, a gay man hasn't broken my heart this badly since college. _________________ Save Wildwood, NJ!! I guess when a woman finds the right one it is like finding gold. I used to think men's barbers were all the same when I went to get my hair cut, then I decided to change my look to that Jeff Bridges/Preston Tucker style that was big through the 30's to the 50's. Long on top and short on the sides. No barber was ever able to get it right until I found an old Marine in Monrovia who knew exactly what I was talking about. now I can't go to another barber My hair is a bit too long now, I'm do for a trim. _________________ Looking for my Emma Peel. I typically wear my hair in a 1960s style flip. It takes about a half a can of Aquanet each time I get it done. I was so excited to be hostessing the latest Shag reception in Palm Springs that I went a little overboard with the teasing comb here: Here it is not so teased with a looser curl for a casual hang with friend Charles Phoenix I had a special "wiglet" with extra curls made to match my natural flaming red locks. I bobby pin it to my own hair on top of my head. I save the wiglet for extra special occasions.... Like helping the Millionaire (of Combustible Edison fame) listen to some tunes on the headphones - yah that's all we're doing... oh those darn paparazzi... Or like having cocktails with artist Mark Ryden and his artist wife Marion Peck. (Apparently the girl behind us was not impressed with the wiglet) Of course, after I've been partying with our own Nathan in Las Vegas, it tends to get a bit messy... _________________ Please come and visit my site and join my mailing list! The information on this page is written for a transsexual audience. For a general discussion of hair removal, please visit: hairfacts.com Hair removal Androgen-driven hair, especially facial hair, is an almost universal problem for transsexual women. It is one of the most difficult problems to solve, and getting rid of it will often be essential for assimilation. Anyone who is planning to go full time and is even remotely considering the option of stealth is strongly advised to seek permanent facial hair removal as soon as possible in transition. For some transsexual women, it is the most time-consuming and expensive part of the entire process. This needs to be said first and foremost: Electrolysis is the most reliable option available today that has been proven to remove transsexual facial hair permanently. Laser hair removal can be an acceptable or even preferable alternative in some cases, but laser is usually not enough by itself to remove all transsexual facial hair permanently. See the link below for more on lasers for transsexual women and options for combining electrolysis and laser. Bottom line: If you seek permanent hair removal and cannot afford to risk your time, money, or complexion on methods that may or may not work, I recommend that you invest in electrolysis with a practitioner recommended by another transsexual woman who is done and happy. If you are considering laser, you should read the overview on laser for transsexual women below. I have moved all information that is not specifically for transsexual women to hairfacts.com . But we don’t see today ’s state of the art hair transplants because they go unnoticed. Plugs Mini Micros Follicular Units Follicular Evolution - from big grafts to micro grafts to ultra refined grafts Surgical hair restoration has dramatically evolved from the big round “plug” grafts of the 1960 ’s and 70’s, to the “mini micrografts” of the 80’s and early 90 ’s, to modern hair transplant procedures using entirely follicular unit grafts . Now hair restoration surgery is going through another important evolution that is improving both the naturalness and fullness that can be achieved from any one surgical hair transplant session. Today's evolutionary high point - Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Transplantation By relocating these carefully prepared bald-resistant follicular units, physicians doing “follicular unit hair transplantation” recreate a natural pattern of hair in the balding areas. To do this properly is a very time consuming and exacting process. It requires a team of meticulous medical technicians working hand-in-hand with the hair transplant surgeon in a very lengthy surgical procedure. Ultra Refined Grafting - Smaller Blades, Smaller Incisions, Smaller Grafts Today ’s micro surgical blades, like the size of hair grafts, have become ever smaller and now enable hair transplant surgeons to safely make more tiny graft incisions in a given area then ever before. Surgeons are then able to “dense pack” select areas with as many as 40 to 60 follicular unit grafts per square centimeter. This graft density is as much as twice that of the standard follicular unit hair transplant procedure. Such high densities of transplanted hair typically produce the appearance of fullness even after only one surgical session. Patients also experience rapid healing and no visible skin distortions due to the tiny size of these incisions. Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Grafting - Hard on the clinic but easy on the patient. Ultra refined follicular unit grafting raises the bar for physicians and their staff. This delicate and demanding hair transplant procedure requires more skill and careful attention to be performed properly. The smaller and more tightly packed incisions require more closely dissected follicular unit grafts that are carefully trimmed under microscopes. These small and densely packed incisions are also more difficult to place the grafts into. This procedure also requires more careful patient selection, as “dense packing” of grafts is not appropriate for all patients. Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Transplantation – the new “Gold Standard” In the hands of a highly skilled physician and staff the Ultra refined follicular unit hair transplant procedure can achieve excellent new hair growth that is so natural that it is undetectable even under close scrutiny. While the standard micro “follicular unit” hair transplant does produce natural looking results, its ability to achieve high density in only one surgical session is limited. Thus patients may have to do subsequent surgical sessions in a transplanted area to achieve a full look. The many patient benefits of this new procedure are significant and include: The ability to get excellent hair density in only one surgical session. Minimal trauma in the graft recipient area with rapid post surgical healing. Little or no visible pitting or distortions in the transplanted areas. More natural direction and angulation of the transplanted hair. Surgeons who perform Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation While all the physicians recommended on this website perform quality follicular unit hair transplants, only some of them are capable of performing large sessions of ultra refined follicular hair transplantation. However, all members of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians perform ultra refined grafting with excellent results. Learn more about the Coalition and its outstanding member physicians. How many grafts will you need to restore a full look? Densely packed grafts that are properly angled Today hair transplant surgeons can control and vary the angle and direction of tiny graft incisions to a high degree. This enables the transplanted hairs to grow out at natural angles and directions. The Lateral Slit Technique Many of the physicians recommended on this site use this lateral slit technique (also known as “coronal” or “perpendicular” grafting) exclusively or in combination with other techniques. The lateral slit technique enables a surgeon to create graft incisions at varying angles (ranging from 10 to 90 degrees to the scalp), including very acute angles. The ability to create incisions at very acute angles is particularly useful in areas such as the front temples and sides where the hair normally grows out lying flat on the scalp. site search: " Subscribe Modify/Remove your email: hair cutteries and havedefective yeti: Haircut << Natalie Merchandise | Over The River & Through The Woods >> Haircut After years of forking over $30 every other month so that strangers could make my hair look bad, I finally realized that I could make my own hair look bad for free! . So I picked up some clippers from Target, handed them to The Queen, and told her to go nuts. This is the result. (And, for purposes of comparison, this is what it often looked like before.) It looks as good (read: not very) as the professional cuts, my shampoo usage has plummeted, and I won't have to get another cut for months -- win-win-win! I'll freely admit, though, that I got a little nervous when, in the midst of shaving my head, The Queen started whistling Sinead O'Connor. Posted on June 16, 2003 Comments It seems that I meet more and more people who have given up with the hair cutteries and have done the at-home thing -- whether using their spouses as cheap labor or actually doing it themselves. My wife has been cutting my hair every other month for about a year now. Can't beat the price! Posted by: Bert on June 17, 2003 12:05 PM I still sometimes go and visit my hair lady, who doubles as a low-grade psychoanalyst, but I love being able to cut my own hair with the clippers. Just be careful , tho. Posted by: Kram Suibom on June 17, 2003 03:05 PM In that photo your similarity to Ewan McGregor is really pronounced. I do the trimmer thing too, once every two or three months. The only thing you notice is each cut you go down a grade until you are doing it to 1 or 0. It lasts longer that way, and as all the hair is the same length, you get untidy around the neck and ears quickly if you dont cut short. But its been a good choice IMO, the reward of having nice hair isnt worth the trouble, when it looks pretty good cut close anyway. (Especially short hair on the ladies, but that might just be me!) Posted by: Ben on June 17, 2003 03:10 PM Ewen McGregor? That's a step up. Usually I get Kiefer Sutherland. Posted by: Matthew on June 17, 2003 03:15 PM I cut my own hair and have been doing it for the last few years. Typically I begin by cutting it all off, then every few weeks I give it a touchup. When the ear and neck hair becomes too unruly, I cut it all off again and the cycle repeats. Posted by: Jerry Kindall on June 17, 2003 03:18 PM get a Flowbee !
