AskChrisKnight.com HOME :: Health-and-Fitness / Hair-Loss Laser Hair Removal Know The Facts By Christopher Luck Article Word Count: 588 [ View Summary ] Comments (0) Is laser hair removal the right choice for your hair removal needs? There are so many option for hair removal that I have trouble telling which ones are going to be the best. The truth is that I didnt know that much about laser hair removal, so in order to make the decision I looked into it more. The removal of unwanted hair can be a big deal, but it is difficult to know which of the many methods out there will work best for good permanent or semi-permanent hair loss. If you find yourself in a similar quandary, take some time to read this and find out how laser hair removal works, what you need to know, and what the problems are. Laser hair removal is an interesting procedure. It works through the use of a light wavelength. The wavelength targets dark colored materials on your skin. Usually the pigment is actually hair. The person administering the laser hair removal procedure will usually work it through a hand held device that removes the hair from the areas that it targets. The darker your skin pigment is, though, the more difficult it will be to perform the procedure on you. It definitely works better on those who have fair colored skin against dark hair because of the way it targets pigment. Laser hair removal has actually been around for quite sometime. However, it is only in recent years that I have become available for commercial use. It is still a fairly expensive procedure, so that should be kept in mind when considering it as an option. As time passes, the procedure continues to improve and prices will likely continue to decrease. So, it is okay to take some time to make sure it is the right procedure for you. Sometimes the hair will come back, but generally in a lighter color than before. There are not a lot of problems with laser hair removal, but you should be aware of what there is. Medically, the problems are very rare. However, a lot of people who have the procedure done have complained that it is a painful process. It is, for the most part, uncomfortable, but you will be given any medication or pain killers. As for medical problems, there are some if the procedure is done incorrectly. When done poorly, laser hair removal can be the cause of discolored skin lasting a few months, burns, patchy hair regrowth, and lesions. Your best bet is to really look into who you are having perform the procedure. Choose someone who has been doing it a while and who has customer references. With a good and qualified technicians performing the procedure, the odds of you having problems are very slim. If you have unwanted hair that is going to require something besides the occasional shave or way, then you are likely one who will research all available options. One such option is laser hair removal. It is a fairly uncomfortable, yet effective hair removal procedure. As with any procedure, however, make sure you get a qualified professional to perform it on you. With the right person performing the procedure and with the advances in recent years, you will find that your laser hair removal experience can be a good one. Remember, though, that only you will be able to determine the best hair removal system or procedure for you. Photo: Bob Fleischhauer Salon Secrets Spa has a style that's all its own Adam Stone Special to the Business Journal KENNETT SQUARE -- Some "day spas" will buff your nails. Others will wax your parts or pack your face in mud. Pamela Troyan dreams of grander things. "We are able to offer them a total indulgence, a whole day of experiences from head to toe," Troyan said. Since 1992, her Salon Secrets Spa has enjoyed steady growth, thanks in large measure to Troyan's big vision, her idea that a spa could be something more. A "medi-spa" provides physician-supervised skin treatments such as botox injection and laser hair removal, while a fitness studio offers yoga and pilates classes. She's looking at adding a clothing boutique next year. Some 2,000 clients now visit the spa each month, drawn by these diverse offerings, and rising revenue is expected to top the $1.4 million mark this year. In the past two years Troyan has doubled her space from 2,500 to 5,500 square feet. Not only has Troyan added new services steadily over the years, she has added the right services, industry observers say. "Pamela is a very involved owner," said Rachel Singer, new business manager for Aveda. "She goes to all the industry events, she stays on top of trends, she looks at what is happening in the marketplace and she builds her model around that. So she is not afraid to change." Troyan's relationship with Aveda has been among her more successful moves. The enviro-friendly line of beauty products is heavily branded and widely recognized among consumers. Even more ambitious has been Troyan's move to add medically supervised services to the mix last month. Guided by Dr. Tom Burke, the spa uses leased equipment to zap follicles, smooth wrinkles and so forth. "I had read about the medi-spa getting popular, and I myself would love to have some of these things done, especially in a setting like this," Troyan said. "Women may feel embarrassed about going to a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon's office, with everyone staring at you and wondering what you are getting done. Here you go into the spa area and you might be getting a facial or any number of things." Troyan and Burke split the relatively low cost of malpractice insurance for these services. Those who have worked with Troyan say the expansion into medically driven beauty services is both a logical move and one very much in keeping with her entrepreneurial character. "Most entrepreneurs want to do something, but they allow compromise to creep in. They don't follow through," said Eric Manuel, who as vice president of Strategies Publishing Group Inc. of Centerbrook, Conn., has done business coaching for Troyan's employees. "She has always followed through with her ideas." Thursday, October 13, 2005 By Catherine Donaldson-Evans PHOTOS Click image to enlarge STORIES ARCHIVE BACKGROUND • New York Fashion Week Offers Peek at Spring • Fall Fashion Muse: The Lady in Black • Schoolhouse Frocks: Back-to-School Fashion • ‘Lollipop Head’ Starlets Start Fashion Trend NEW YORK — After several seasons of fussing with their long, layered locks, Hollywood stars and their copycats have been looking for a shortcut. Many have found it in an updated version of a classic favorite: the bob ( search ). “Bobs are definitely hot in Hollywood right now,” said Glamour magazine beauty writer Stephanie Huszar. “They’re really gorgeous, they’re really versatile and they’re easy to style.” Celebrities who have gone all bobby lately include Charlize Theron ( search ), Paris Hilton ( search ), Nicole Richie ( search ), Britney Spears ( search ), Maggie Gyllenhaal ( search ), Kirsten Dunst ( search ) and J-Lo ( search ), among others. The traditional bob is a short, sleek and sometimes severe cut with hair that’s all one length (save for the possibility of bangs), falling somewhere between the chin and the shoulders. But today’s bob has a little more pizzazz. “The new bobs are very soft and very sexy … they’re not blunt-cut anymore,” Huszar said. “Stylists are using a razor to trim the ends, which gives them a real lightness and softness and swinginess.” Read the entire article October 14, 2005 @ 5:48 am , You're input matters. -- 5 Comments » […] Short Hair Bobs, the new Hollywood Rage […] Pingback by Ending Hairstyle Struggles » Nicole Ritchie–The Classic Bob Hair Style | hair styles, hair styles, hair style advice — October 26, 2005 @ 6:56 pm […] Short Hair Bobs, the new Hollywood Rage […] Pingback by Ending Hairstyle Struggles » Wedding Hair Styles-Do’s and Don’ts | hair styles, hair styles, hair style advice — October 29, 2005 @ 3:16 pm […] Short Hair Bobs, the new Hollywood Rage By: Barb on November 1, 2005 @ 3:09 pm | Permalink […] Pingback by Ending Hairstyle Struggles » Wedding Hair Styles–Some Do’s and Don’ts | hair styles, hair styles, hair style advice — November 1, 2005 @ 3:37 pm […] Celebrity Hair Style Trends, […] Pingback by Ending Hairstyle Struggles » I am Fashion: Hairstyle Trend Fall/Winter 2005 | hairstyles, hair designs, hair style advice — November 25, 2005 @ 11:45 am […] Celebrity Hair Style Trends, […] Pingback by Ending Hairstyle Struggles » Sally Beauty Best Tressed 2005 Survey | hairstyles, hair designs, hair style advice — December 21, 2005 @ 3:29 pm RSS feed for comments on this post.
