Owner of hair salon in North Port accused of groping customer BY CHRISTOPHER O'DONNELL NORTH PORT -- The owner of a North Port hair and nail salon pulled a female customer into a massage room and molested her, according to a police arrest report. Richard Dean Applestone, 52, of the 3600 block of Cake Terrace, was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery. The 29-year-old woman told police she was washing her hands Wednesday before leaving Salon 41, on the south side of U.S. 41, close to Burger King, when Applestone approached her. Telling her he had something to show her, Applestone grabbed the woman by the wrist and pulled her into the massage room. He then pulled off part of her clothing and groped her. After leaving the store, the woman called North Port police. She was interviewed and then underwent a medical examination at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte. North Port police questioned Applestone later the same day. At first, he denied touching the woman. Later, he admitted touching her breasts but denied other accusations, the report states. He was being held at the South County jail in Venice. Sexual battery is a second-degree felony punishable up to 15 years of imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
