Leg Hair Removal

Press Releases | 2004 | 2003 | 2002 | 2001 | 2000 | 1999 | 1998 01 - 08 - 2002 It's a close shave - how to keep fuzz free this summer With women spending, on average, anything from 6 a year on disposable razors to 1,200 for a course of laser treatments the hair removal industry is big business. But when Which? took a closer look it found that cheaper products often work as well as pricier alternatives (Keep your hair off, 1 August 2002). Women tested razors, depilatory creams, waxes and growth inhibitors on lower legs and underarms. Which? also looked at the more expensive business of 'permanent' hair removal. Waxing works by applying a sticky substance to hairs and then ripping off, pulling the hairs out from the root. Regrowth takes around 12 days . All the waxes Which? looked at were equally effective, but some were easier to use than others. The testers preferred the cold wax strips to the more messy warm wax kits, with Wax-Away Advanced Wax Strips coming top. Shaving is quick simple and cheap, but only removes the hair above the skin's surface and can leave nasty nicks. Regrowth takes around four days. There was little difference in the shaving performance of the razors, but, the testers found some cheap throwaway models were uncomfortable to use and left the skin sore. The Bic Twin Lady avoids these problems and performed as well as the more expensive models (one disposable razor costs around a quarter of the price of a replacement blade). Although men's razors were as effective, women's, generally, were more comfortable to use. Depilatory creams act by dissolving the hair - but there's no action at the root, so hair grows back sooner than with waxing (around five days). This is more expensive than shaving or waxing and users should do a patch test to avoid skin irritation. All creams were equally effective - the main differences are in how they smell and how likely they are to irritate skin. Well-known brand Immac was popular, but Superdrug's own was just as good, and 40% cheaper. Testers also tried three 'growth inhibitors' which claim to reduce hair growth. Most users didn't notice any difference in hair regrowth, and only two of the 15 testers said they'd use them again. There are several treatments that claim to remove hair more permanently - electrolysis, laser treatment and intense pulsed light (IPL). Electrolysis uses a tiny needle to discharge an electric current to destroy the hair follicle. It's a slow process, so best for small areas of hair, but it's the only method that can promise truly permanent reduction. A 15 minute session costs around 10 -15. Laser and IPL treatments can remove hair from large areas. Both treatments disable the hair follicle using a beam of light, with results in minutes, compared with hours for electrolysis. They're expensive, a course of lower leg treatments could cost 1,200, with no guarantees of permanence. Which? recommends anyone wanting to use electrolysis, laser or IPL to look for a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC), and to always have a consultation and patch test. Helen Parker, editor of Which? said: "When it comes to hair removal, our testers tried the rough with the smooth; growth inhibitors apparently made no difference at all, but some cheap disposable razors worked a treat." "Laser and IPL treatments can reduce the number of hairs, but results vary tremendously and it is expensive, so choose carefully before parting with your money." Ends Notes Methodology - Forty women tested the razors, 30 used the depilatory creams, and 30 tried waxes Each woman used two products - one on each side of the body to remove hair from lower legs and, with razors and creams, from underarms as well. In addition, fifteen women tried three growth inhibitors. Products tested Razors System razors - Gillette for Women Venus, Gillette Mach 3, Wilkinson Sword Lady Protector Plus, Wilkinson Sword Protector 3D Diamond Disposable razors - Bic Twin Tough Beard, Bic Twin Lady, Superdrug fixed head, Superdrug Women's Depilatory creams -Immac Hair Removal Cream Fragrance Sensation, Immac Hair removal Mousse, Nair Glide On Cream Suprdrug Hair Removing Cream, Boots New Moisturising Hair Removing Cream Waxes Warm Waxes - Immac Aquasystem Warm Wax Roll-on, Surgi Wax Body & Leg Microwave Hair Remover Wax, Superdrug Hair Removing Warm Wax Roll-On Cold Waxes - Immac Cold Wax Strips, Waxaway Advanced Wax Strips, Superdrug Hair Removing Wax Strips 'Growth Inhibitors' - Ultra Hair Away, Surgi Hair Stop, Waxaway Slo Gro Gel Costs compared - to keep lower legs hair-free for a year Which? estimates that each method would cost the following: Disposable razors, 6; System razor, 25; Home waxing, 30; Hair removal creams 85; Salon waxing, 180. A course of six laser treatments on the lower legs costs around 1,200 but don't always remove hair permanently. Prom Hair Styles: Looking Your Best on Your Big Night Your prom hair style is something that you need to give some considered thought. Your hair needs to accentuate your dress, your make-up, and your face. Follow these simple pieces of advice to have truly stunning prom hair. Make no mistake - your hairstyle is vital to you looking stunning on this special night. To achieve that drop-dead gorgeous look that most of us strive for, you need to strike the right balance between your dress, your hair, your make-up, and your accessories. However, the reality is that loads of would-be prom-princesses do not give enough attention to their hairstyle even though they may spend days searching for the perfect dress, shoes, and lipstick. With prom hairstyles there are really no right or wrong answers, rather it is what makes you look your very best on the night. Some of the best prom hair styles are not necessarily created in the salon. You can (sometimes with the help of a girlfriend or two) achieve some great styles at home. While getting together with a group of friends and doing each other's hair can be fun, there is no denying that sometimes we like to pamper ourselves and have a stylist do our hair for special occassions such as the prom. If you decide to go for the pamper option then I recommend the following advice: Make the appointment 1-2 months before your big night but be sure to make a note of the time (it is a good idea to ring and confirm the appointment 2 days before the date). Use your usual stylist for your prom hair style as they already know your hair and more importantly have an idea of your personality. Make sure that you feel comfortable wearing it. Feel beautiful, and chances are you will look beautiful. Dont let a hair stylist or a friend talk you into something that you do not like. What style is best for you will depend on how you see yourself, and how you want others to view you. Make sure you can explain the style you want to the stylist. If you saw it in a magazine, see if you can take it along — it can pretty difficult to explain a hairstyle to someone. Remember a pciture speaks a 1000 words. Make sure you have a view from every angle and that model's face shape is the same as yours. We have an article on face shapes and another on 3D hairstyle visualization that might be helpful. Your prom hair style needs to complement your total look. Think about the overall style of your dress, your accessories, your shoes, and your make-up. While there are no hard and fast rules, here are some guidelines that you should consider. You should consider having a trial run. This way you can check that your dress, shoes, hair, and accessories all work together. If you are wearing a dress that has a high or a fussy neckline, then it is often best to wear your hair up if you have medium length or long hair. Because the neck of your dress is such a feature, you will want to keep your hair simple and elegant. Match the style of your dress and the style of your hair. If you are wearing a timeless elegant gown opt for a classic hairstyle such as a French roll. If you are wearing a funky dress then try some funky updos. Continue the line of your dress all the way up to your head. If you are wearing a dress that has a soft and floating skirt then think about wearing your medium-long length hair down. The movement of your hair will complement the movement in your skirt. On the other hand, if you are wearing a stiff skirted ballgown style dress than an updo will best complement this style. Remember, the most important thing about looking beautiful on prom night isn't a great prom hair style, or even a great prom dress — it's about feeling confident and relaxed. Have a great night! 2004 Free Hair Style Advice(www.freehairstyleadvice.com)

While many laser hair removal centers use a “one-laser-fits-all” mentality, Ideal Image has multiple FDA-approved lasers onsite. In that way, our experienced practitioners can select the best laser for customizing an individual's treatment to their specific hair color and skin type. Who performs laser hair removal? All laser hair removal treatments are performed by one of Ideal Image's advanced nurse practitioners, registered nurses or physician assistants. Before performing any treatments, each practitioner is trained extensively – not only by Ideal Image's one of kind onsite training center, but also by the manufacturer of each laser utilized at that location. Additionally, a licensed medical doctor serving as medical director of an individual location, oversees all treatment and competency of the medical staff at their specific facility. What experience does Ideal Image have with laser hair removal? Since opening years ago as one of the pioneers in laser hair removal, Ideal Image has guided the consumer and treated thousands of patients for removal of unwanted hair. Due to our unique and exclusive focus on laser hair removal, as well as numerous guest referrals from satisfied clients, Ideal Image is considered by many to be the nation's industry leader. Not only are our practitioners trained by the laser manufacturers, but Ideal Image is the only laser hair removal company with a fully operational hair removal laser training center. We are committed to providing the best practices for permanent hair removal, while we pioneer and set the pace for others to follow. What types of hair color and skin color can be treated with laser hair removal? While laser hair removal can be performed on virtually any skin color and hair type, hair color is the most important factor. The light emitted from the laser is attracted to the melanin, or dark pigment, in the hair follicle. This means that dark hair is treated most effectively. Treatments performed on red, blonde, and gray hair are not generally as effective. Our multiple laser modalities available at each Ideal Image location, allow us great versatility for accommodating the most variance in hair and skin color. Written Guarantee Ideal Image provides a written guarantee on our laser hair removal services. One of our new guest consultants will discuss all the details with you during your complimentary consultation. What is the cost of laser hair removal and meaning of the Ideal Image “upfront pricing policy”? Rather than charging our patients for each individual session, Ideal Image offers an “upfront price” for all laser hair removal treatments. This enables us to offer you the best value – whether it takes you five treatments or ten to completely remove the hair, your cost will not increase. Included in our upfront pricing is an additional year of free touch ups following your last treatment, just in case a stubborn stray hair appears. Why is our Complimentary Consultation important? Coming in for a complimentary Ideal Image consultation is the most important step towards solving your unwanted hair problem. You're guest consultant will determine whether you're an appropriate candidate for successful treatment. Additionally, you will learn how laser treatment works and how much it costs. Our consultants have been asked every question imaginable and are committed to handling all your concerns. Your personal information and case details will be regarded in strict confidence as your privacy is always of great concern to us. AskChrisKnight.com HOME :: Health-and-Fitness / Hair-Loss Hair Loss - What Causes It? By Michael Russell Article Word Count: 521 [ View Summary ] Comments (0) Hair loss. What causes it? I mean, one day it's on your head and the next day it's gone. Did gremlins sneak into your room in the middle of the night and cut it off? Well, not quite and hopefully after you're finished reading this article you will understand why you're losing your hair. It's not because of your kids. At any given point in time about 10% of the hair on your head is asleep. After about 2 or 3 months, this resting hair (yes, it takes long naps) falls out and new hair takes it's place. The hair grows at a rate of about 1 centimetre per month. Not very fast. It is normal to experience some hair loss on a daily basis. But some men and women experience what is considered excessive hair loss. So what causes this? Well, a number of things actually. One way is after surgery or excessive stress. The hair loss is a direct result of this surgery or stress but is usually temporary. If you have hormonal problems, this can cause hair loss as well. If your thyroid gland is overactive, this can cause hair loss. If your male and female hormones are out of balance, this can cause hair loss. Usually correcting the hormone imbalance can stop the hair loss. Women usually have hair loss a few months after having a baby. This is also because of hormones. During pregnancy certain hormones are higher that keep hair from falling out. After pregnancy these hormones are lessened, so the hair begins to fall out. When the hormones return to the level before pregnancy the cycle returns to normal. Some medications can cause hair loss. This usually improves once you stop taking the medicine. The biggest offenders are blood thinners, medicines used for gout and chemotherapy. Also birth control pills and anti depressants. Some infections such as fungal infections of the scalp can cause hair loss. These however are easily treated. Finally, hair loss can be caused by a more serious disease like lupus or diabetes. Hair loss is usually an early symptom of a disease, so it is best to get this checked out as soon as possible. Also improper hair care can also cause hair loss. Using tight corn rows or hair rollers. Hot oil treatments can also cause hair loss as well as constant wearing of hats. The reason is because the hat prevents air from getting to the scalp and eventually the hair dies. Only wear a hat when necessary. Then there is what they call "male pattern baldness." This is the most common cause of hair loss in men. This is an inherited trait, meaning that if your father went bald, there is a good chance that you will as well. Men who lose their hair at an early age usually have more extensive hair loss than other men. This type of baldness usually starts with a receding hair line at the front of the scalp.
