The term cellulite simply describes a pitting, bulging, and deformation of the skin caused by the over-inflation of fat cells from an increase in fat storage. Cellulite usually appears on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, calves, and arms, and is most common in women because their fat cells reside closer to the surface. Genetics and insufficient water intake can also contribute to cellulite development. More than 80% of women over the age of 20 years, regardless of their weight or size, are affected by cellulite. Over the years different techniques have been used to try to improve cellulite. These have included a variety of creams and lotions that promise a reduction in the appearance of cellulite, but generally have led to less than satisfactory results. Surgical removal has also not proved to be a popular approach. Newer methods, involving the use of lasers and laser-like technologies, such as the VelaSmooth and others, represent non-invasive non- surgical methods of reducing cellulite and re-contouring the body to look smoother and firmer. What Happens During Laser and Laser-like Cellulite Treatment? During the procedure, the targeted cellulite fat cells are heated below the surface of the skin. This heat promotes better circulation to the local area, which may allow for more oxygen exchange for increased fat cell metabolism. Following the delivery of heat, today’s cellulite technology provides a vacuum action with deep tissue massage to the treated area. This approach both mobilizes fat while at the same time stimulating the formation of new collagen. What will the treatments feel like? During the treatment you will feel a deep, soothing heat in the targeted area. The treatment can be compared to the feeling of the sensation of finishing an intense workout or having a deep tissue massage. Are there any other benefits of having the treatment? Improved circulation, a decrease in muscle aches and pains and overall better health are some of the possible treatment benefits. Skin tightening, or firming of looser skin, may also be seen. Although cellulite treatment is not a weight loss tool, patients may look and feel as though they have lost weight because their bodies are better contoured. How long will the procedures take? A series of at least 16 treatments over 2-3 months is ideally required. In order to maintain improvement, follow up treatments may be necessary. Are treatments safe? This treatment can be used on all skin types and colors. There is no post-treatment down time. Some redness may occur after treatment. This generally fades quite quickly. Today’s technology has greatly reduced the risks, side effects and complications that are normally an intrinsic feature of all surgical procedures. How Do I Get Started? Dr. Goldberg and his staff will be happy to discuss this procedure with you. Please feel free to call for a private consultation or Schedule an appointment online @ one of our offices.

Index CUTTING CURLY HAIR Curly hair can be a challenge to cut. Once you gain enough confidence it can be a lot of fun to work with. However, it is essential to understand how curly hair behaves after it has been cut and dried. Although you can apply any cutting technique to curly hair, you will get different results with each one than you get with straight hair. Curl patterns can range from slightly wavy to extremely curly and curly-haired clients may have fine, medium, and course textures, with density ranging from thin to thick. T IPS FOR CUTTING CURLY HAIR 1- Curly hair shrinks much more after it dries than straight hair. The curlier the hair the more it will shrink. For every one fourth inch you cut when the hair is wet, it will shrink up to one inch when the hair is dried. Always keep this in mind when consulting with your client. 2- Using minimal tension and/or the wide teeth of your comb. If you use a lot of tension when cutting curly hair, you will stretch the wet hair even more and it will shrink that much more when it dries. 3- Curly hair naturally graduates itself. If the shape you want to create has strong angles, you need to elevate less than working with straight hair. 4- Curly hair expands more than straight hair. This means that you will generally need to leave its lengths longer, which ultimately helps weight hair down and keep the shape from shrinking or ending up to short. 5- In general a razor should not be used on curly hair. Doing so can weaken the cuticle and cause to hair to frizz. 6- Choose your texturizing carefully. Avoid using the razor, and work mostly with point cutting and freehand notching to remove bulk and weight. Home Basic Cuts Gallery Tips Cutting Curly Hair

Everyone has some hair loss every day. In fact, it is normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day. However, some people lose a lot of hair early in life because it runs in their family (inherited) or because of disease, medications, stress, injury, or damage to the hair. What causes hair loss? The most common cause of hair loss is genetics—you inherit the tendency to lose hair from either or both of your parents. This is called male-pattern or female-pattern hair loss, or androgenetic alopecia . (Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss.) About half of all people have this type of hair loss by about 50 years of age. 1 , 2 See an illustration of typical inherited hair loss . Other common causes of hair loss include: Ringworm of the scalp ( tinea capitis ),which is common in children. Mental stress or physical stress, suchas recent surgery, illness, or high fever. Chemotherapy ,the use of medication to destroy cancer cells. Pulling your hairback too tightly, wearing tight braids or ponytails, or using curling irons ordyes. Age. As you age, you grow less hair. It is also thinner andtends to break more easily. What are the symptoms? Hair loss can occur as thinning (you may not notice hairs falling out) or as shedding, with clumps of hair falling out. It can be general—you lose hair all over your scalp—or focal, which means you lose it in one area only. In inherited hair loss, men generally develop bald spots on the forehead area or on the top of the head, while women have an overall thinning of the hair throughout the scalp. Because hair is an important part of appearance, hair loss can result in loss of self-esteem and feeling unattractive, especially in women and teens. How is hair loss diagnosed? Hair loss is diagnosed through a medical history and physical examination. Your health professional will ask you questions about your hair loss, such as whether your parents have hair loss, when your hair loss started, and how much hair you are losing. He or she will also look at the pattern of your hair loss, examine your scalp, and may tug gently on a few hairs or pull some out. If the reason for your hair loss is not clear, your health professional may take a sample of your hair or scalp to examine under a microscope, or do a blood test to identify a disease source. How is it treated? Some people choose to treat hair loss with medications or surgery, such as hair transplantation. Others choose to wear hairpieces (wigs or toupees) or use different methods of hair styling (dyeing or combing). The approach you use depends on the cause of your hair loss and how you feel about it. Some people feel they need treatment, while others are not as concerned about thinning hair or baldness. Hair loss that is caused by a controllable factor, such as stress or a medication, is treated by eliminating the cause. Will my hair grow back? Whether your hair grows back depends on the cause of your hair loss. If you have inherited hair loss, you would need treatment to regrow your hair. It will not grow back naturally. However, treatment to regrow hair does not work for everyone. If your hair loss is caused by medication, stress, or damage, hair often grows back after the cause is removed, although sometimes treatment may be needed.
