You can make a difference in a childs life by giving your hair to Locks of Love “ Locks of Love is a not-for-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children Provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under the age of 18 with medical hair loss. These custom-fitted hair prosthetics are provided free of charge or on a sliding scale to children whose families meet the Locks of Love Board of Directors guidelines. Donors provide the hair, volunteers staff the office, and the manufacturer hand-assembles each piece, which requires approximately four months. The organization, which began in 1997, has helped over 1000 children since its first year of operation. Thousands of bundles of donated hair arrive from around the country as a result of national publicity Locks of Love received in newspapers, magazines and television programs. The donations continue to pour in. Most donors mail a note and a photo with their bundle of hair. Children comprise over 80 percent of the donors, making this a charity where children have the opportunity to help other children. Locks of Love provides its recipients with a custom, vacuum-fitted hairpiece made entirely from donated human hair. The vacuum fit is designed for children who have experienced a total loss of scalp hair and does not require the use of tape or glue. Most of the applicants suffer from an auto-immune condition called alopecia areata, for which there is no known cause or cure. Others have suffered severe burns, or endured radiation treatment to the brain stem, in addition to many other dermatological conditions that result in permanent hair loss. Donated hair is evaluated for its usefulness according to the following guidelines: The donated hair must be at least 10 inches (preferably 12″) in length It must be bundled in a pony tail or braid It must be free of hair damaged by chemical processing The hair must be clean and dry, placed in a plastic bag, and mailed in a padded envelope to: Locks of Love 2925 10th Avenue N., Suite 102 Lake Worth, FL 33461 Monetary donations to Locks of Love are tax deductible. I went in for something called a glow skin facial? It was a customized facial with laser treatment combined. The women who treated me was terrific, full of information and I left looking as if i had been on vacation for the past 2 weeks. There was a good positive energy amongst the workers, which i seldom fine and they never rushed me and even educated me on some things i wasn't aware of. I received soo many compliments about how i looked after my treatment, that i already booked my next facial and bought one for my sister's birthday! We asked celebrity stylist John Masters of The John Masters Salon in New York City for some advice on how to get the chin-length look that will make you the envy of all your friends. STEP 1: If you have colour-treated hair like Jennifer's, use a moisturizing shampoo. If not, a shampoo for normal hair is fine. Use a detangler to condition. This will help your hair look smooth and shiny without weighing it down. STEP 2: Towel dry your hair and apply a volumiser at the roots. Using a comb, create a 'messy' parting by allowing the hair to follow its own course. You don't want it to look too precise. Jennifer's starts a little off-centre and ends toward the middle of the head. STEP 3: Pre-dry the hair by running your fingers through it as you apply low heat. You want your hair to be damp but not wet before you start to style. STEP 4: Begin styling the back sections of hair first. Working from underneath, use a jumbo round brush to guide the hair straight down while applying medium high heat. Let the ends of the hair curl under very slightly as they fall off the brush. Repeat this process for the entire head. STEP 5: Rub a small amount of styling pomade between the palm of your hands. Starting about an inch from the roots, work through the hair to the ends. If your hair is naturally straight and fine, you may want to skip this step, as the pomade could make your hair look heavy.
