Life Cycle of Hair All hair falls out aftre a certain period of time and new hair starts to grow back. We call this the " Lifecycle of Hair ". There are three stages in this process: Growth Stage Mature Stage Recovery Stage The best time to treat your hair for lifetime removal is in the end of the growth stages where the root is deeply enbedded into the skin. During the other two stages, the root is shrinking and new hair is ready to grow back. So when you treat your hair in these two stages, it only will be temporary--not for a lifetime! For lifetime removal, all of your hair has to be at the right stage (Growth Stage). However, you cannot determine which hair is in which stage just by looking at it. Each person has a different length of time to complete the treatment depending on which stage your hair is currently in or which body part (underarm, arm, let, etc.) is considered. Therefore, it takes 1 - 1.5 years to complete the treatment process. The hair you see right now at the surface is only 30% of your entire hair. 70% is waiting to grow back! When you start your treatment, the first 3-4 months you will need to come once a week. After that, you will need to come every three weeks to complete the treatment. The Perfect Hairstyle Quick Tip *Cutting Your Hair When It's Dry Is this a bad thing to do or a good thing? Actually, there are several reasons why a stylist will prefer your hair to be wet. -While wet, your hair has no curl that is noticeable. All of your hair lays flat and at the same length. Dry hair (with curl) can mess everything up leading to more hair being cut than was intended. -Dry hair can also give a false impression of how your hair behaves naturally. Each day is different with everything from the weather to your last hairstyle playing a part... think ponytail ridges. *Maybe It's You If you aren't happy with the look of your style after applying hairspray, you might even want to try this. I saw my hair stylist do it and there was absolutely no hard film. He sprayed the air and then waved his hand around so that only a fine mist settled on my hair. It makes sense when you think about it. One shot from the sprayer could hit one area making that seem brittle. And if you are anything like me, you spray several spots so that you cover all of your hair. Big mistake. *Still More Shine If you are burning the candle at both ends, your skin, hair and nails are going to reflect this lack of sleep. If you want to look your best... get a good night's sleep and do it often.        Topic Index | Email to a Friend Our Story | Be a Guide | Advertising Info | Work at About | Site Map | Icons | Help User Agreement | Ethics Policy | Patent Info. | Privacy Policy | Kids' Privacy Policy ©2005 About, Inc., A part of the New York Times Company . These campaigns persuasive thousands of hair loss sufferers to spend nearly one billion dollars each year on ineffective hair loss treatments. Most questionable hair loss products use similar, misleading marketing techniques. Why aren’t hair loss scams illegal? One would imagine that the FDA would stop the promotion and distribution of questionable products. Unfortunately, they can't. Since the FDA approved minoxidil and finasteride as effective in stopping hair loss, any inclusion of these products in any form enables marketing companies to make hair loss claims. This is why Avacor, which contains minoxidil, can advertise that its product contains an “FDA approved ingredient”. Misleading Marketing Some hair loss products lead you to believe that they can stop hair loss by parsing their words. They can't come out and claim to regrow hair or stop hair loss, so they advertise vague claims like “thicker, fuller hair”. This is a ‘cosmetic' claim that any product can make. Be advised that cosmetic claims cannot restore hair or grow hair because they are not proven to do so. False Testimonials With the anonymous nature of Internet postings, people posing as users can mislead others with false testimonials. Often positive reviews are produced by people compensated to post these messages. Since there is no real regulation of online postings, consumers are advised to take testimonials with skepticism. Phony Photos Most product advertising that claims to produce dramatic results will show a photo of a balding person with thin hair next to a photo of the same person with thicker hair. Do these photos lie? Well, yes they do. You can prove it yourself. Take a photo of a head with thinning hair using a flash camera and then photograph the same head without the flash. The photo with the flash will look like a bald head and the photo without the flash will look like more hair. If the products or services are really legitimate, there should be dozens of photos, if not hundreds or thousands. Many hair loss products claim to be able to restore hair through the use of drugs, herbal lotions or other exotic applications like lights, lasers or electrical fields. While many of these products have been around for years, there is little evidence that they can restore hair. Avoiding scams to find hair loss treatments that actually work. If a person is genetically prone to hair loss and balding, FDA proven hair loss treatments may help slow the process if they are used early and often. If you are like many and have already lost more hair than you're happy with, there is only one option to restoring your own natural hair: hair transplants. Hair transplants have become an art in the restoration of natural hair which is genetically resistant to the causes of balding. Like any surgical solution, your success depends upon the quality of the doctor you choose. Doctors who are successful in restoring a natural looking head of hair are carefully reviewed by the Coalition of Hair Restoration Physicians for membership in this exclusive organization. They must allow access to past patients, confirm their training and provide photos and videos of their patients. While hair transplants are not possible for everyone, they are now more natural and affordable than ever before. AskChrisKnight.com HOME :: Health-and-Fitness / Hair-Loss Medical Hair Restoration the Best Choice By Christopher Luck Article Word Count: 551 [ View Summary ] Comments (0) What are the best options for hair restoration? I know a lot of people, mostly men, who are losing or have lost their hair. It can be a bit depressing because it is sometimes associated with the aging process. We live in a society built on trying to fight off the aging process. There are certainly drugs, wigs, and holistic hair restoration, but the best solution is possibly medical hair restoration. Medical hair restoration, or what is sometimes called hair transplants will work for both men and women in many cases. It usually can produce a very natural and real head of hair. Many say that medical hair restoration is actually the best method for getting your pre hair loss look back. There are certainly other medical hair treatments such as Propecia and Rogaine, but medical hair restoration actually has the best and most proven results of all. The key is that the procedure does not actually alter hair growth at all. In fact, the treatment is completely undetectable once it is completed and the transplant area has healed up. The process of medical hair restoration begins with a consultation with a surgeon. He or she will look at the healthy hair on the sides and back of your head to make sure you have enough to actually make the treatment successful. This part of the procedure is why it is most effective for those losing their hair, not those who have already lost most of it. Once the surgeon has decided that medical hair restoration will work for you, the procedure is pretty simple in idea. The surgeon will take tissue-containing hair follicles from the healthy hair on your head. Those will then be grafted on the bald section of your scalp. The surgeon will place the grafts at various angles to create a very natural looking hair line for you. Though medical hair restoration is often associated with people who are completely bald or close to it. However, if you want to avoid getting to that point, you may want to think about medical hair restoration as soon as hair loss starts to show itself to you. As long as the loss is not caused by chemotherapy or other non-natural causes, medical hair restoration can really help curb the effects. So medical hair restoration is not just about restoration but also about stopping it from getting too far. Also, you will likely be prescribed hair loss treatment drugs after the procedure to hopefully prevent you from having to have the treatment again down the road. Hair restoration is big business. The reason is that we live in a society that puts a lot of emphasis on curbing the aging process. To many of us, hair loss is a big sign of aging and something we want to reverse or even stop. The idea is to keep in mind hair restoration can be a great answer, but that you must take the time to research your option. Medical hair restoration is one of those options that is very effective, so it may just be in your best interest to look into it. hair cutteries and have

defective yeti: Haircut << Natalie Merchandise | Over The River & Through The Woods >> Haircut After years of forking over $30 every other month so that strangers could make my hair look bad, I finally realized that I could make my own hair look bad for free! . So I picked up some clippers from Target, handed them to The Queen, and told her to go nuts. This is the result. (And, for purposes of comparison, this is what it often looked like before.) It looks as good (read: not very) as the professional cuts, my shampoo usage has plummeted, and I won't have to get another cut for months -- win-win-win! I'll freely admit, though, that I got a little nervous when, in the midst of shaving my head, The Queen started whistling Sinead O'Connor. Posted on June 16, 2003 Comments It seems that I meet more and more people who have given up with the hair cutteries and have done the at-home thing -- whether using their spouses as cheap labor or actually doing it themselves. My wife has been cutting my hair every other month for about a year now. Can't beat the price! Posted by: Bert on June 17, 2003 12:05 PM I still sometimes go and visit my hair lady, who doubles as a low-grade psychoanalyst, but I love being able to cut my own hair with the clippers. Just be careful , tho. Posted by: Matt on June 17, 2003 12:12 PM Funny, I've been looking to sell my original copy of Deities & Demigods -- does yours have the Cthulhu and Melibonean Mythos, or is it a 2nd edition? Heh, and you thought you could get through this entry with a substantially lower geek-quotient than normal. Posted by: jdodd on June 17, 2003 12:21 PM Actually, I don't own that book -- it is inexplicably in my workplace's lunchroom, and i just grabbed it as a humorous prop for this photo. I'll check on Cthulhu, though. Update : Yup, Cthulhu is in there. Posted by: Matthew on June 17, 2003 12:25 PM Posted by: K on June 17, 2003 02:43 PM Jetboy - enough said. Posted by: Kram Suibom on June 17, 2003 03:05 PM In that photo your similarity to Ewan McGregor is really pronounced. I do the trimmer thing too, once every two or three months. The only thing you notice is each cut you go down a grade until you are doing it to 1 or 0. It lasts longer that way, and as all the hair is the same length, you get untidy around the neck and ears quickly if you dont cut short. But its been a good choice IMO, the reward of having nice hair isnt worth the trouble, when it looks pretty good cut close anyway. (Especially short hair on the ladies, but that might just be me!) Posted by: Ben on June 17, 2003 03:10 PM Ewen McGregor? That's a step up. Usually I get Kiefer Sutherland. Posted by: Matthew on June 17, 2003 03:15 PM I cut my own hair and have been doing it for the last few years. Typically I begin by cutting it all off, then every few weeks I give it a touchup. When the ear and neck hair becomes too unruly, I cut it all off again and the cycle repeats. Posted by: Jerry Kindall on June 17, 2003 03:18 PM get a Flowbee ! Posted by: Anita Rowland on June 17, 2003 03:41 PM I've been using a Flowbee for the last 3 years. My mother gave it to me as a white elephant xmas gift but it's quite a money saver! Posted by: John on June 17, 2003 04:37 PM You. Are too cute. Why are all the good ones taken? Posted by: Jennifer on June 17, 2003 07:44 PM Ack. Where's the chin rug? Is it summer already? Posted by: Amazing Escapee on June 17, 2003 08:43 PM I don't recommend cutting your own hair... Exhibit A Then again...works for me now... Posted by: agraham999 on June 17, 2003 09:18 PM I liked it before, too.... but then again, I was a teenager in the 80's. Posted by: dayment on June 17, 2003 10:24 PM "Actually, I don't own that book..." Yeah right, we've all tried that one my friend. Posted by: Paul on June 18, 2003 01:27 AM Kiefer? Ewan? No, dude, you resemble Robbie Williams.... ...and Robbie Williams kind of resembles this kid named Steve Rhoton that I used to get in fights with in fifth grade. Yeah.... Posted by: edgeling on June 18, 2003 04:23 AM "Yup, Cthulhu is in there." That's not really something you hear every day. Incidentally, the Keifer Sutherland cmoparison isn't terribly inaccurate, but in this photo you look like Keifer Sutherland if he got Ewan McGregor's role in Trainspotting. "Choose life. Choose a career. Choose a starter home. Events occur in real time." Posted by: jdodd on June 18, 2003 06:24 AM What is this cutting of the hair you speak of? Bah! Don't you know that the source of a man's power is in his hair? To cut the hair is to throw away your vital essence! Or at least that's what I tell my wife whenever she suggests I get a trim... Posted by: Windopaene on June 18, 2003 08:27 AM I'm sorry - (and I am speaking from personal knowledge, experience and beard burns) One can NOT be a proper commputer geek without a beard. A beard is a source of all things vital essencie....um, yeah that. Posted by: emersonavenue on June 19, 2003 07:07 AM Not bad, not bad at all. I agree with the Ewan or Robbie resemblance. Posted by: Simon on June 19, 2003 04:21 PM Now if you're REALLY into the DIY hair thing -you should invest in a Flowbee! Now that's what I call a fine hair-cutting machine. Just plug the Flowbee into almost any vacuum and voila! Fantastic hair cut without the mess. Now does it get any better than that? No really. I want to know... Posted by: Chris on June 19, 2003 04:27 PM I will visit this site again Posted by: netflix on June 20, 2003 12:58 PM You look like a complete gyppo Posted by: Arnold on June 21, 2003 05:00 AM I don't know -- I've been using a Wahl Trimmer to great effect. My hair is currently stable at just a bit shorter than yours. The best part is that I need not ask any Queen to clip -- the Wahl makes it fairly easy, and if you're fearless a few times about doing it and getting a little feedback and then working it over again, you can get pretty good at giving yourself the same damn haircut in ten minutes, every month or so. Cheap, but my hair's completely intractable anyways. *shrug* Posted by: chaoticset on July 4, 2003 12:29 AM Y'know, the copy of the book with Cthulhu in it often sells for several hundred dollars... Posted by: on July 22, 2003 01:06 PM I think he looked cuter the way his hair was in Moulin Rouge.........I still like his hair cut though. Posted by: on August 19, 2003 10:52 AM I think he looked cuter the way his hair was in Moulin Rouge.........I still think his haircut is weird.
